Kilombero Sugar Company Limited (KSCL)
Kilombero Sugar Company Limited (KSCL) established in Tanzania is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Group the African leading and largest sugar producer. Illovo operations in Tanzania comprises of two agricultural estates namely Msolwa and Ruembe, two sugar factories popularly known as K1 and K2, and one ethanol distillery also known as K3. Illovo holds 55% of the issued capital in KSCL with 20% held by ED&F Man, a London-based commodities group and 25% by the government of Tanzania.
KSCL
KSCL is situated in Morogoro region in the central southern part of the country and is the biggest integrated sugar estate covering 23,000 hectares with the total investment of TShs 240 billion to date. The two adjacent agricultural estates and sugar factories are situated on either side of the Great Ruaha River and linked by a low-level bridge. The two factories annually crush 1.2 million tons of cane, producing over 130,000 tons of brown sugar under the popular brand name of ‘Bwana Sukari’ for local and regional markets.
Above production accounts for about 43% of the annual national production. KSCL employs more than 4,000 people during peak seasons. Until 2014, the company had invested over TShs 6.5 billion for social development initiatives. A new 40 kilolitre/day potable alcohol distillery worth TShs 78 billion was commissioned in August 2013 producing above 12 million litres annually. The produced high quality product is supplied to local beverage manufacturers.
